An Interview with Aida de Ridder
[Liz]
Hello Witchies! Today we have a very special interview for you with Aida de Ridder on of our lovely artists. Aside for working on WITCH, Aida is also working on her own video game called Herald, if you haven’t checked it out yet, you really should!
Name: Aïda de Ridder
Website: http://www.aidaderidder.com/
Tell us a bit about your art:
I like to think about my own art as vibrant and full of character. I’ve always been drawn to animation and storytelling in media, So I aim to capture personality in each character I paint and make people interested in the story behind them.
From what do you draw your inspiration?
I am a big fan of comics and animation, and these are perhaps the biggest inspirations for me, as well as other artists I follow online. I love doing research into subjects I am painting, and when the assignment calls for it, I use history and culture to inspire me.
What other artists do you admire / influence you?
I admire a great many artists, but the ones who have made it professionally are my biggest inspiration. Growing up I was really into Wendy Pini’s comic work, and now I look up to artists such as Julie Dillon, Laurel Austin and J.C. Leyendecker.
How would you describe your style?
Cartoony mixed with semi realism.
What previous work are you most proud of?
I am proud of my religion illustration, just because it feels polished and it tells a story with it’s imagery. Dawn of a new Age I am proud of because I really like how the solid brush painting style came out.
What is your favourite piece you have made for WITCH so far?
I really enjoyed drawing the Lich lady Ama, her fashion style was great fun to paint!
If you were Fated, what Fate would you be?
I think I relate most to the Djinn because I feel a constant duality as well with my opinions and personality. I tend to look at everything from both sides and find it hard to pick just one.
If you could have any magical power, what would it be?
To not sleep or ever be tired. I have way too many things I want to do!
