2018 Retrospective

2018 Retrospective

Liz here! So it is probably a bit late to post a retrospective on last year, but I needed the entirety of January to get over 2018, so here it is. I think 2018 was a rough year for a lot of us in the gaming community and that was no different for me. There we personal ups and downs – my biggest up having to be me becoming an aunt and my biggest down was the local post service loosing all of the Familiars of Terra Kickstarter books. Luckily, the end of the year was extremely restorative for me. I got to see a lot of family and close some projects I’ve been working on for a while. It gave me a lot of time to reflect.

Since the start of Angry Hamster Publishing I’ve tried balancing running a RPG company while also working as a freelancer in the industry. While this has worked for the most part and I’ve grown immensely over the past two years – AHP has stayed somewhat static. We do one big release per year, but there is no forward movement.

I could go into the all reasons behind this, but what I find more interesting is the fact that I didn’t realize freelancing was where my focus was until I had time to step back in December. I took a hard look at what my business was doing, what made me happy, and what I wanted to focus on in 2019 – and ultimately that was my company.

I’d like to build Angry Hamster Publishing into a company that can support full time staff, with a steady fanbase, and is profitable enough that don’t need any side jobs (if I don’t want them).

So in 2019 there will be a fundamental shift in how AHP does business and my focus is going to be with all the angry hamsters out there. At the forefront of this shift is going to be me using the experience I’ve gained from other companies and funneling it into my own. I’m also going to focus on products in line successful books we’ve had in the past – namely WITCH: Fated Souls. AHP will also be getting better in communication – we’re updating the blog more and being more active on social media. One of the coolest parts of making games is geeking out with people who like your stuff – and we want to do more of that! Finally, there is going to be a lot more gaming, playtesting, and products coming from us.

So hamsters! All I can say for now is stay tuned and I will talk to you soon!

Lots of love and best wishes for 2019!

-Liz
